Multiple email accounts, much greater speed and more personalization!

When a new app launches, unless it’s from a big company with a very large team and very deep pockets, that app has had many features pared back, simplified, or axed completely. And even if that app was created by a big company, I can pretty much guarantee that it is still missing some features that are planned for future versions.

The basics of gardening

As the head of a product, you have a vision of what you want your product to be and you can see way down the road to the beautiful flower that you know is going to bloom, given enough time and proper care. Unfortunately, that flower has to start as a seed and the general public may not appreciate it right out of the gate. In fact, some of those same people will give you a 1-star review for your seed, because they wanted the beautiful flower and don’t understand the basics of gardening, (so to speak.)

That’s okay, you can’t take app reviews personally. Even the angriest, 1-star reviews usually contain feedback on what people want or expect from an app. At Timyo, we listened very closely to our users. Not only in the app reviews, but through our support channels, and from short surveys that we asked our users to complete in order to help us polish our product. We took this important step very seriously and really took to heart what people want from their email app – especially since Mailbox is no longer with us and people were REALLY attached to that app.

Multiple email accounts…

We knew when we launched our app with support for only a single email account that a lot of people would not be able to use it on a daily basis. Almost everyone has more than one email account, but we had to start somewhere: get the product into peoples hands and get feedback. And the feedback that we got, both from users directly and from app data analysis was great! People loved the concept and used our Timyo-specific features, but just needed more than one account setup in order to use the app on a day-to-day basis.

And now, thanks to our fantastic, rockstar engineering team, we have updated the app with support for multiple email accounts! You might think it would be really easy to enable multiple email accounts in a single inbox. I mean, to paraphrase some of our users, “All of the other guys do it!”, but, the big difference between us and them is a fairly complex layer of time management (we’ll call that, “Timyo’s secret sauce”,) that we magically do in the background. Except for the fact that it isn’t magic, it’s actually a very complex bit of engineering that our guys handled with great finesse!

… and much, much more!

On top of multiple email account support, the engineering team was able to really improve the speed of the app. They tweaked and optimized a bunch of the code and app architecture and now emails load much quicker – the entire app is much more responsive. And since we are obsessed with time at Timyo, we are constantly finding new ways to improve the speed of the app, so this is just the first step!

In this update we were also able to add a very nice layer of personalization, like Notifications, Badge Count, and new settings for expectations when sending emails. We know people like to deal with their email in their own way, so now our users can choose as many, or as few of our unique features to optimize their workflow.

So, as of right now, we are very happy with what our engineers were able to accomplish in such a short time. But, we also know that our app is still just a little sprout, just poking out of the soil, on its way to becoming the big beautiful flower that we know it is destined to be. We have many additional features, and of course, much greater speed planned for the near future.
